Christian Service

All junior high students at Divine Child Elementary School are expected to participate in the school’s Christian Service Program. The purpose of the program is to increase student awareness of community life, develop the student’s individual, family and community responsibilities, and prepare the student to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. Christian service hours can be obtained when a student provides a service they would not perform normally, for example volunteering at Market Day, the Divine Child High School Auction, the Divine Child Elementary School Boutique, being a Sunday School helper, or helping at special parish events.

•  All 7th grade students, non-Catholic included, are expected to complete 30 hours of service and two written reflections during the 7th grade.
•  All 8th grade students, non-Catholic included, are expected to complete 30 hours of service and two written reflections during the 8th grade with one hour being served in a community setting such as a nursing home, a food bank, assisted living center, soup kitchen, animal shelter or a Knights of Columbus function.

A written report of completed Christian service hours and written reflections are reported to the Religious Education office twice a year. 15 hours and one reflection are due the Monday after Thanksgiving with an additional 15 hours and one reflection due in April.
