DCES Art is for all students Grades K-8. We offer a Fine Arts Program with concentrations in Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, and Media Arts. Every student actively learns and creates in these areas of artistic discipline. The Divine Child Elementary School Art Curriculum is aligned to the National Visual Arts Standards and State of Michigan Standards.
Artsonia, the world’s largest online art museum for students, displays Divine Child Elementary School students’ artwork. Click here to browse the artwork in our school gallery by grade level or by specific exhibits.
Art Club is offered for Jr. High students. Art Club members are able to pursue their own artistic interests through a scheduled after school program.
Summer Art Camp
Art Camp offers new art adventures every summer through specialized projects. Art camp is offered for students in Grades 5 – 6 during the first week of summer vacation. The Jr. High Art Camp is for students in Grades 7 – 9 and is held in DCHS Art Studio the first two weeks of August.
Divine Child Elementary School students are encouraged to make music and worship a joyful part of their daily lives. Students in Grades 1-4 attend a weekly music class in which they experience all aspects of music: vocal, instrumental, and movement. Students in Grades 4 and 5 acquire the musical skills to play the recorder. Students in Grade 5 are then highly encouraged to join band. Students in Grades 5-8 who enjoy playing their instruments are actively part of the DC Beginning Band, DC Intermediate Band or DC Junior High Band. Divine Child Elementary Bands are a part of MSBOA and have the opportunity to participate in the District Solo and Ensemble Festival and in the Band and Orchestra Festival.
Our school produces a Spring drama production each year with performances taking place in Divine Child High School’s Auditorium. In addition to acting parts, many students assist as tech crew members and set crew members. No previous experience is necessary.
